One of the greatest pleasures in life is a really great breakfast. It’s the foundation of a fantastic weekend and can be the difference between an okay day and a brilliant one. Palm Desert is lucky to have so many wonderful breakfast spots, and we’ll clue you in on five of the best breakfasts.
Keedy’s Fountain and Grill
73-633 CA HIghway 111, Palm Desert CA
There’s nothing like enjoying a hearty breakfast in a diner with a 50’s feel, especially when they serve the “World’s Best Pancakes.” Established in 1957, Keedy’s provides a “blast from the past” in their authentic throwback diner. Keeley’s is open seven days a week from 6:30 am to 2 pm.
The Keedy’s Breakfast Special comes with two pancakes or a half-order of french toast or waffle with two eggs and two slices of bacon or two sausage links. They also serve omelets, huevos a la Mexicana, and chicken fried steak.
The diner has won “Best Greasy Spoon,” “Best Place to Meet Your Lover,” and “Best Breakfast House” awards from Palm Springs Life Magazine. Our hands-down favorites are the pancakes (so light and fluffy and not too sweet!) and the chorizo and eggs.
Sherman’s Deli and Bakery Palm Desert
73-161 Country Club Drive, Palm Desert CA
While their central Palm Springs location is well-known, some are surprised to learn there’s also a Palm Desert location too! Sherman’s Deli and Bakery bills itself as a New York-style family restaurant and has been featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives Food Network Program. They’ve been in business since 1963, and the deli offers a wide variety of breakfast items. They’re closed on Tuesdays and open 8 am to 9 pm every other day.
You can try a wide variety of omelets, Eggs Benedict with a choice of protein, fish platters, and bagels and lox. Belgian waffles, pancakes and eggs, corned beef and hash, and ham steak and eggs are also available. Our pick is the bagel and lox platter with all the fixins! Plus, there’s often enough to take home.
77682 Country Club Drive, Palm Desert CA
Karen’s Cafe is a traditional breakfast spot that serves a variety of breakfast foods, as well as an Italian menu for diner service. The cafe is cozy, and the atmosphere is lively; it’s the kind of spot you find out about and then tell your friends, but not TOO many of them; otherwise, you’ll wind up without a table.
Karen’s serves breakfast burritos, Three egg omelets, biscuits and gravity, and country fried steak as well as french toast and bagels. Karen’s is open 7:30 am to 2 pm and 5 pm to 8:30 pm Monday through Saturday and closed on Sundays.
Wilma and Frieda’s
2310- 73575 El Paseo Drive, Palm Desert CA
Named after the owners’ grandmothers, Wilma and Frieda’s offers up comfort food with a twist. They even offer bingo from time to time. Their breakfast offers include Blackberry Custard French Toast, Banana Caramel French Toast, pancakes, eggs, griddled meatloaf and eggs, and a few styles of Eggs Benedict. They also serve chilaquiles with “soy-riozo.”
Wilma and Frieda’s has won “Best Breakfast” from Palm Springs Life three times and won 2021 Best of the Desert from the Desert Sun. They’re open Thursday through Monday from 8 am to 2 pm and closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
